Winnipeg, MB – We’re coming to neighbourhoods across Winnipeg to rid the city of those pesky skeeters.
In a response to a recent increase in trap counts, we will start our adult nuisance mosquito control program tomorrow night.

We will start spraying tomorrow at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting, in the following insect management areas:
- IMA 1 (Kilcona Park, River East, Springfield North, Valhalla)
- IMA 2 (Kildonan Drive, Rossmere A)
- IMA 11 (Glenwood, Norwood East, Norwood West)
- IMA 13 (Alpine Place, Elm Park, Lavalee, St. George, Varennes, Worthington)
- IMA 14 (Kingston Crescent, Minnetonka, Norberry, Pulberry, Victoria Crescent)
- IMA 18 (Maple Grove Park, Normand Park, River Park South, St. Vital Centre, Vista)
- IMA 26 (Betsworth, Ridgewood South, River West Park, Roblin Park, Southboine, Westdale)
- IMA 27 (Elmhurst, Eric Coy, Marlton, Ridgedale, Varsity View, Vialoux)
- IMA 28 (Assiniboine Park)
- IMA 50 (Jefferson, Kildonan Park, Seven Oaks)
Based on the Adulticiding Factor Analysis (AFA) factors, which include trap counts, the city-wide rating moved from MEDIUM to HIGH today. The city-wide trap count is 138.
Nuisance mosquito fogging is triggered by criteria set by the City of Winnipeg Adult Nuisance Mosquito Control Policy and the Provincial Pesticide Use Permit.
- The city-wide Adulticiding Factor Analysis must be HIGH.
- The city-wide average trap count must be a minimum of 25 female mosquitoes for two consecutive nights.
- One or more of the quadrants of the city must report at least 100 female adult mosquitoes.
These conditions were all satisfied in the last 24 hours.
Adult mosquito control occurs between 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. and will not happen with heavy winds or when temperatures are below 13 C.
- We will conduct any required adult nuisance mosquito control using DeltaGard 20EW®
- We will prioritize areas with highest nuisance mosquito populations and respect any buffer zones in place
- We will notify the public 24 hours ahead of any fogging activities and provide daily updates on where treatment will occur that night
The insecticide DeltaGard® 20EW will be used in accordance with federally approved label directions and will be applied by licensed applicators. This insecticide has been approved for use in Canada by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency.
Buffer zones
Buffer zones make it so we can’t apply DeltaGard within 90 metres of a specific property.
Residents can apply for a buffer zone adjacent to their principal residence. Applications must include a letter and photo ID linking you to the address in question. They can be submitted:
A minimum 72-hour turnaround time is required.
Do your part
We also encourage residents to stop skeeters from multiplying on private properties. People can eliminate standing water by following our #draindumpcover protocol:
- Drain water from eavestroughing or unused containers
- Dump standing water from containers like wheelbarrows, bird baths, and kiddy pools when they aren’t in use
- Cover rainwater collection containers and undrainables like larger pools and water tables
Residents can also fill low-lying areas where water pools and treat their properties with commercially available pesticides.
