Winnipeg daycare touched by cancer, hosts lemonade sale to raise funds

Winnipeggers looking for a cool drink and a way to help families touched by cancer are encouraged to stop by Kidi Garden Day Nurseries on Friday.

For the second year, children at the Luxton area daycare centre will spend their afternoon selling lemonade for a cause.

“In the beginning, we just wanted to fundraise and help for a good cause, but this year it is extra special to us because we do have a staff right now that is dealing with cancer, so we hope to reach our goals,” said Diana Veloso, a daycare teacher at Kidi Garden Day Nurseries.

Veloso says they will have various things for sale including flavoured and non-flavoured lemonade. They will also have some plants and stuffies up for grabs.

Jack is one of the children who attends the daycare, and he is excited to help raise funds for cancer.

“There are some people that died in my family from cancer. So, I want to help raise funds so nobody else has to go through that.”

Last year the group made $500. This year they hope to reach $700.

The lemonade stand takes place Friday, July 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the daycare at 172 Smithfield Avenue.
