Family plans vigil for pedestrian — a mother of six — killed by vehicle

The family of a pedestrian killed in collision with a vehicle this week will be remembering the 32-year-old mother Tuesday at a candlelight vigil in her memory.

Loretta Green was hit by a vehicle at Notre Dame Avenue and McPhillips Street shortly after midnight Monday. She was rushed to hospital in unstable condition and later died.

Diane Thomas, Green’s mother, described her daughter, a mother of six, as a “kind soul” who loved to joke with her sons and was close with her entire family.

“She was an amazing person,” Thomas said Tuesday. “She was caring, loving. She would give you the shirt off her back and help people out — whatever she could, she’d try.”

A vigil planned by Thomas and her children is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the collision site.

Social media posts announcing the vigil describe Green as a “remarkable life taken too soon.”

Thomas doesn’t know the details of the deadly collision, but said she is focusing on “doing what she has to do” for her daughter and her grandchildren, the three youngest all under the age of 10.

“It sounded like he was driving fast, and speed was a factor,” she said.

Police declined to share specifics Tuesday but said no charges had been laid and the investigation is ongoing. The driver remained at the scene and spoke with officers.
