In a news release Sunday, police said officers noticed a suspicious Chrysler 300 on Garry Street near the police headquarters at around 1:10 a.m. The driver began obnoxiously revving the vehicle’s engine, drawing the officers’ attention.

As officers approached the vehicle, the driver sped southbound on Garry at a high speed. Despite efforts to contain and safely stop the vehicle, the driver continued to operate the car erratically, disregarding public safety.

The driver was seen running red lights and making multiple unnecessary lane changes at speeds of up to 90 km/h within the downtown area. Due to the collaborative efforts of multiple units, including Downtown and East District General Patrol, the Tactical Support Team and the Canine Unit, police eventually spotted the vehicle on St. Mary’s Road and safely stopped it near St. Michael Road and Pulberry Street.

Upon arrest, the driver was found with a quantity of methamphetamine. Police said that the vehicle had been involved in another erratic driving incident on Friday on Pembina Highway.

The driver has been charged with dangerous driving, flight while pursued by police and possession of methamphetamine. He was detained in custody.
