2 Manitoba Youth Centre inmates escape custody during escorted trip in Winnipeg

Two 19-year-old inmates who fled from correctional officers during an escorted trip to Winnipeg are considered armed and dangerous, police say.

Winnipeg police got a report around 7:20 p.m. Monday that two inmates had escaped custody while on an escorted leave from the Manitoba Youth Centre.

They’re now looking for Charlie Dixon and Haiden Guimond, both 19 years old, who are serving youth sentences at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Dixon and Guimond were taking part in a community program in Winnipeg’s North End when they fled from corrections officers, Winnipeg police said in a Tuesday news release. They have searched numerous locations for the two without success.

The two are considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say.

Dixon is described as five feet, eight inches tall, with a medium build and medium-length black hair. He usually wears glasses and was last seen wearing ripped jeans, a blue T-shirt, a beige zippered jacket and blue-and-white Air Jordan runners.

Guimond is described as five feet, eight inches tall, with a large build and short, brown hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black sweater and blue Air Jordan runners.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act normally prohibits naming young offenders, but police said they were granted a temporary court order allowing them to release information about Dixon and Guimond.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
