A 30-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving and failing to stop at an accident after a hit and run sent a 24-year-old motorcyclist to hospital in critical condition early Monday.
RCMP were called with a report of a collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 44, about one kilometre east of Highway 59, shortly before 1 a.m. Monday.
They found a motorcycle driver with life-threatening injuries, who was taken to hospital and remains in critical condition, RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.
Investigators believe the 24-year-old Winnipeg man driving the motorcycle was heading west on Highway 44 when a pickup truck struck him from behind, then left the site of the crash.
The officers who responded to the crash obtained information that led them to an address on Henderson Highway, where the pickup truck was found with the driver sleeping at the wheel, RCMP say.
The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to the RCMP detachment in Selkirk to provide breath samples for analysis.
He was later released from police custody and has a court date scheduled in November on charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop after an accident that resulted in bodily harm.
