New spray pad and playground celebrated at Adsum Park

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the governments of Canada and Manitoba, along with the City of Winnipeg, celebrated the opening of a new 3,000-square-foot accessible spray pad, playground, and other park features at Adsum Park in The Maples.

“Local playgrounds play a vital role in connecting families and friends,” said Kevin Lamoureux, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg North, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “This state-of-the-art spray pad will greatly benefit the people of the Maples community by providing access to new and improved recreational infrastructure. Investments like this will continue to offer people quality services while promoting healthy and active living in a safe and accessible environment.”

“The Province of Manitoba is excited to partner on neighborhood improvement projects like this one,” said Ian Bushie, Minister of Municipal and Northern Relations. “Making communities more livable is great for families and encourages economic growth. We look forward to seeing more projects like this spray pad improve the quality of life for communities in every region of Manitoba.”

“The opening of the new spray pad and playground at Adsum Park is a fantastic development for our community,” said Vivian Santos, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services. “These new amenities will provide a safe and accessible space for families to gather and children to play. This project showcases the power of collaboration between federal, provincial, and municipal governments, as well as community organizations, to create lasting benefits for our neighborhoods.”

“I’m so thrilled that all levels of government were able to come together to deliver a much-needed resource for The Maples,” said Devi Sharma, Councillor for Old Kildonan. “Families rely on free recreational activities, especially when the weather gets hot and children are out of school. I know that this new spray pad and playground will bring lasting memories to families for years to come.”

“I would like to thank Councillor Sharma and all of the funding partners, and the members of our community who have worked together to make this new spray pad and playground a reality,” said Bhagwant Muker, Chair of the Maples Recreation Association Board of Directors. “This will be very good for our community, a wonderful place to gather.”

In addition to a new accessible spray pad and playground, the project included new asphalt pathways, seating areas, fencing, benches, picnic tables, a bike rack, shade structures, and upgraded landscaping.

The Council-approved budget for the project was $1.718 million, with $400,000 funded through the federal Canada Community Building Fund, $545,000 from the provincial Building Sustainable Communities Program, $723,0
