A minor train derailment briefly blocked eastbound and westbound traffic on two major streets in south Winnipeg on Monday.

The affected streets were Grant Avenue and Taylor Avenue near Lindsay Street, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a social media post early Monday afternoon.

Police said just before 12:30 p.m. the closures were not expected to be lengthy, and added there was no spillage or hazardous material involved.

Within the hour, traffic appeared to be back open to vehicles on both streets, though the train crossing’s lights and bells were still activated.
