Teen charged in 2 separate stabbings

Two people were injured in separate “unprovoked” stabbing attacks in Winnipeg on Friday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a press release that the first incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on the 400 block of King Street, where a 50-year-old man was approached and stabbed in the upper body. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Shortly after, at approximately 10:20 a.m., a 27-year-old woman was in the rear of the 700 block of Main Street when she encountered the same suspect. Without provocation, the suspect repeatedly stabbed her in the upper and lower body before fleeing. She was transported to the hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable condition.

The Winnipeg Police Service K-9 Unit, with help from North District General Patrol officers, tracked and arrested the suspect in the 100 block of Lusted Avenue.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male, and both victims were not known to each other. The Major Crimes Unit has charged the youth with two counts of assault with a weapon.
