A 20-year-old man is in hospital after being shot several times during a late-night meeting to buy a gun in Winnipeg’s North End.

The man had arranged to buy the gun through a firearm brokerage website and pulled up to the prearranged meeting spot on Battery Street just before 10 p.m. Monday, according to a police news release.

He was meeting with two other men when one of them pulled out a gun and aimed it. As the 20-year-old began to drive away, multiple rounds were fired into his car. He was hit several times, police said.

He drove a few blocks and then called police. Officers found him on Mountain Avenue and gave him emergency first aid until an ambulance rushed him to hospital in unstable condition.

The man has since been upgraded to stable condition.

The police are looking for two suspects. One is described as a man in his 20s, wearing a white hooded sweater, and the other is a man in his 30s, wearing dark clothing and carrying a long gun.
