RCMP to release details on multiple homicides near McCreary

Multiple people were slain near McCreary on Friday, and RCMP will release information on their investigation late Friday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Richard Sherring of major crime services will be speaking at a news conference in Winnipeg about the homicides.

A news advisory did not state how many people were killed.

About 20 minutes before police announced the homicides, RCMP said there was a large police presence near the community, which is northeast of Riding Mountain National Park and roughly a 90-minute drive northeast of Brandon.

Officers are there as part of an ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the public, RCMP said in the first news release.

Officers from Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP and major crime services, and forensic identification services, are at the scene.
