Police initially responded to the first incident around 8 p.m. to a park near Portage and Carlton, where a man in his 50s had been stabbed. Officers provided emergency medical care, including the use of a chest seal, before the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He has since been stabilized.

About 30 minutes later, police were called to a second stabbing at Graham and Garry. A man in his 20s was found seriously injured and was treated by officers before being taken to the hospital, where his condition was upgraded from critical to stable.

The suspect fled the second scene on a bus but was later found on foot after leaving the bus. Tactical units, including the Tactical Support Team, K9 Unit, and AIR1, searched the area. The suspect was eventually located in the river near Point Douglas and, after swimming back to the riverbank he was taken into custody.

Police said the incidents were connected.

A 38-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with aggravated assault (two counts), possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking. He remains in custody as the Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.

Police urge anyone with information about these incidents to contact investigators.
