Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a house fire in the 500 block of Young Street early Tuesday morning. The call about a fire at a one-and-a-half-storey house came in at 3:08 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke came from the structure, and they were told a person was trapped inside. Firefighters immediately entered the home, located the person, and removed them from the building. The individual was quickly assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in critical condition.
Other residents of the house were able to evacuate on their own before emergency crews arrived. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was called in to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.
The extent of the damage is not yet known, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
