Fuel supply increases as pipeline work gets underway in Manitoba

Fuel supply to Winnipeg and the surrounding area has increased as pipeline maintenance continues south of Winnipeg.

Just over a week ago, Imperial Oil announced they would be temporarily shutting down a pipeline that runs between Gretna and a Winnipeg terminal to ensure the continued integrity of the line.

Since then, the amount of gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel within Manitoba has increased, with supplies being maintained with ongoing rail and truck fuel deliveries.

The province said in a press release that they continue to meet regularly with suppliers and closely track fuel supply levels, price impacts and the distribution of fuel to retailers.

Work is also underway to upgrade the offloading capacity at fuel terminals in Winnipeg and is complete at Gretna. Once complete, these terminal upgrades will increase the volume of fuel that can be transferred from rail to truck for distribution to retailers.

According to the Manitoba government, Imperial Oil is preparing the worksite south of St. Adolphe where the pipeline will be replaced, and as of right now, remain on schedule.

The Manitoba government says they continue to monitor the situation and are committed to taking any additional action necessary to maintain the supply in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
