2 dead, 2 critically injured after single-vehicle rollover in northwestern Manitoba

Two people died and another two were critically injured after a vehicle lost control and rolled over in a ditch in northwestern Manitoba on Saturday, RCMP say.

Officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Provincial Road 287, south of the community of Cormorant, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, RCMP said in a news release on Sunday.

A vehicle with five people inside was headed east when it lost control, entered the ditch and rolled, investigators believe.

Two men — a 35-year-old from Opaskwayak Cree Nation and a 36-year-old from Prince Albert, Sask. — were pronounced dead at the site of the rollover, police say.

The driver, a 39-year-old man from Opaskwayak, as well as a 28-year-old woman from The Pas sustained life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital, but later flown to Winnipeg.

A 25-year-old woman from The Pas was treated in hospital and released.

The police investigation continues.
