All southbound access lanes to Winnipeg’s Perimeter Highway are closed at Fermor Avenue after a major train derailment and semi-trailer crash.
A spokesperson for the Winnipeg police said the collision happened on Friday at around 3 p.m., and the road closures were in effect for the afternoon rush hour.
The officer said STARS ambulance service was deployed to the scene of the crash to take a patient to hospital.
There haven’t been any reports of hazardous material spilling on the roadways, police said.
They are asking drivers to avoid the area “at all cost” so emergency services can get access.
Only one northbound lane access to Perimeter Highway is open at Fermor Avenue, police said.
