Fire destroys historic house in St. Andrews, Man.

An 1861 home with a historic site designation from the province went up in flames Thursday morning.

Firefighters battled the blaze as smoke from Firth House, also known as Hay House, in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews could be seen billowing into the sky from hundreds of metres away.

Multiple emergency vehicles were on scene, with RCMP officers diverting traffic from away from the home, which is located on River Road in the community north of Winnipeg.

The Rural Municipality of St. Andrews confirmed there was no one inside the home at the time of the fire.

The front facade of the home has been completely destroyed and the home was gutted by the blaze.

Several emergency vehicles on the road, blocking off access to a major fire.
