Winnipeg police are looking for a high-risk offender they say threw a large metal object into a marked cruiser, injuring two officers.
The assault happened on July 18 at a surface parking lot in the 300 block of Sherbrook Street, near Portage Avenue.
Police said two officers inside a marked police car were talking to members of the public when a man approached the cruiser and threw a large metal object through an open passenger window, striking both officers in their upper body.
Both officers received medical attention at a hospital for minor injuries, police said in a news release Tuesday.
Police have now issued for the arrest of Waylon Joseph Paul, 44, of Winnipeg. He’s accused of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
Police said Paul is a high-risk offender and considered dangerous, and should not be approached.
He’s described as five feet 11 inches tall with a larger build, weighing 211 pounds. He has shorter dark-coloured hair.
Anyone with information about Paul’s whereabouts or video surveillance from the incident is asked to contact Winnipeg police at 204-986-6219 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
