Man, 28, wanted in fatal March shooting arrested in Saskatoon: Winnipeg police

A man wanted in connection with a fatal Winnipeg shooting last month has been arrested in Saskatoon, police say.

Murdo Baker, 24, originally from South Indian Lake, was found around 9:15 a.m. on March 19 in an apartment block on Main Street, between Sutherland and Flora avenues.

He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

With the help of local police, 28-year-old Dyson Sumner was arrested in Saskatoon on April 20, Winnipeg police said in a Monday news release.

Investigators allege Baker and Dyson were socializing with a group of people at the apartment on March 19 before an altercation took place, resulting in the shooting that killed Baker.

Sumner then fled Winnipeg, police say.

Sumner has been charged with second-degree murder, warrants for possessing a weapon and three counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, police say.

He has been detained in custody.
