A man wanted by police in connection with the deaths of two people in Winnipeg’s North End is now in custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

A man wanted by police in connection with the deaths of two people in Winnipeg’s North End is now in custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Officers who arrested Maxim Dale Garneau, 27, on April 11 discovered a loaded rifle inside his backpack, police said in a news release on Monday.

He was facing arrest warrants in connection with the killing of Edgar Allan Bear, 56, who was found dead in a house on Selkirk Avenue near McNichol Street on March 18.

Garneau was also sought in the death of Garvey-Rodriguez, 25, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound outside an apartment building on the 200 block of College Avenue, between Main and Aikins streets, on Sept. 10, 2023.

Garvey-Rodriguez was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.
