Man critically injured in assault near hotel in Winnipeg

A man is in critical condition and several people are in police custody after an assault near a hotel in Winnipeg.

Ellice Avenue, between Berry and Marjorie streets, has been closed since about 10 p.m. Thursday when police were called.

The forensic identification unit was on scene as of Friday morning, taking photographs of a bus shelter in front of the Airport Motor Inn.

Evidence markers have been placed in a number of places on the ground, next to what appears to be items of clothing.

Police say a weapon is believed to have been involved but haven’t released information on what type.

A police car is parked near a taped-off road. It is night time. The lights of a hotel can be seen in the background.
