Police were patrolling when they heard gunshots and found the victim

A man is dead after a shooting early Tuesday in Winnipeg.

Police were patrolling in the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood around 12:45 a.m. when they heard the gunshots, according to a news release from the police service.

They found Edison Leslie Erskine, 46, suffering from a gunshot wound near Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue. The officers provided emergency care until an ambulance rushed him to hospital in critical condition.

Erskine was later pronounced dead.
