A 34-year-old man is dead after he drove down the wrong lane on the Perimeter Highway and crashed into a concrete divider early Thursday morning, police say.

RCMP got a call about the vehicle driving down the wrong lane on the Perimeter Highway near Lagimodiere Boulevard shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release.

As officers were headed to the area, a second call made to RCMP reported a crash at the same location.

Officers found a pickup truck when they arrived, which police believe had crossed the median and travelled east down the westbound lane at a high speed before crashing into a concrete divider on the highway.

The man driving the pickup truck was alone, and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, RCMP say.

The police investigation continues.
