Motorcyclist dies in crash with SUV on southern Manitoba highway

A 49-year-old man is dead after an SUV collided with his motorcycle on a highway in the rural municipality of Roland, RCMP say.

Pembina Valley RCMP officers were called to the two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Highway 3 between Road 26N and 27N.

RCMP said an SUV travelling north pulled into the oncoming traffic lane while trying to pass another vehicle. A motorcycle was travelling south on the highway when the SUV pulled out, police said.

Both drivers swerved to the same highway shoulder to avoid crashing, but they collided head-on, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

The motorcycle rider, from the community of Schoenwiese, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify him.

The SUV driver, a 20-year-old woman, was not injured.

RCMP said they are continuing to investigate. No charges have been laid.
