Four men have been charged with the sexual exploitation of children under the age of six, Manitoba RCMP say.

Five search warrants were executed between March 18 and 25, leading officers to remove three children from “situations where they were being sexually abused and exploited,” the Mounties said in a news release Wednesday. The searches also led to the discovery of tens of thousands of child pornography images.

The men, aged 37, 40, 42 and 56, are all charged with distributing, uploading and possessing child pornography. One is also charged with making child pornography.

The investigation involved three different communities in southern Manitoba, which are not being identified to protect the identities of the children, the RCMP said.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gord Olson called child exploitation a “prolific” problem that happens in every community.

The RCMP’s internet child exploitation unit continues to investigate.
