The Brandon Regional Health Centre will be without maternity services for 24 hours starting Thursday morning due to an “unexpected absence,” the Prairie Mountain Health Region said in a news release Wednesday.
“We encourage expectant mothers who are in labour or experiencing pregnancy-related concerns to attend their nearest emergency department, including Brandon Regional Health Centre, for assessment,” the release said.
“Upon arrival, mothers will be assessed by the medical team, and an appropriate care plan will be developed to ensure their safety and well-being.”
A spokesperson for the Prairie Mountain Health Region said the gap in coverage is related to an “unexpected absence of a medical provider.” The spokesperson also said every effort has been made to find coverage by provincial and regional health providers.
Emergent deliveries will be supported at BRHC, the spokesperson said.
Some cases may be redirected to St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg depending on their assessment during the time period, the spokesperson said.
There is also an integrated provincial transport plan arranged in collaboration with Shared Health’s Virtual Emergency Care and Transfer Resource Service, the spokesperson said.
