St Boniface residents say they’re troubled after gunshots rang out Sunday while children were playing outside.
People living near 153 Aubert Street between Taché Avenue and St. Joseph Street say they heard gunshots followed by police sirens late Sunday morning.
Police said Sunday evening a person was taken to hospital after the shooting.
Julie Lajoie said she was in her backyard with her daughters when she heard two gunshots fired at around noon. Lajoie said police were still driving around the area and checking between houses throughout the afternoon Sunday.
“There are lots of families so there is always tons of kids playing outside,” Lajoie said in an email. “So that it happens so close and in middle of the day, it is certainly troubling.”
Anthony Robertson says this is the third shooting he’s seen in the short time he’s been in the neighbourhood. He said that he got a dog after a woman was shot in the area early last year.
Sunday’s incident was a “pretty frightening set-up scene. All the police force, and guns out, and everything. But it’s not the first time,” he said. “I’d like to stay in this area.… It’s just a shame.”
