A 16-year-old has been arrested and RCMP have issued an arrest warrant for a 22-year-old man in connection with one of two shooting incidents in a northern Manitoba First Nation on Saturday.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, Pukatawagan RCMP were called after a 36-year-old man went to the nursing station in Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, 700 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The victim told RCMP he was threatened by a male inside a vehicle with four other people after being offered a ride. A fight broke out between the individuals in the vehicle and the 36-year-old was shot, RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.
The victim was able to escape the vehicle and run to safety, the release said. The four others in the vehicle — two men and two women — were not injured during the incident.
While RCMP were at the nursing station, a 43-year-old man came in with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. The second victim was not co-operative with RCMP, the release said.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested at a residence in the community in connection with the first shooting, and faces numerous charges, including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent and obstruction of justice.
Police have issued a warrant for Austin Castel, 22, in connection with the shooting.
RCMP are asking anyone with information about the shooting, or Castel’s whereabouts, to call the Pukatawagan detachment at 204-553-2342, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or online at manitobacrimestoppers.com.
