A baby has been placed in the care of a relative after the five-month-old was allegedly dropped on the floor multiple times and then placed in an entertainment unit, Thompson RCMP say.
Mounties went to a home in the northern Manitoba city around 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 2 after receiving a request for assistance, RCMP said in a news release Friday.
When they arrived, officers could hear a loud disturbance inside and went into the home, where they found two women arguing.
Police were told the younger woman, 26, had dropped a five-month-old baby on the floor “multiple times,” which led to the argument with the 41-year-old, according to the news release.
Officers found the baby inside an entertainment unit and called emergency medical services. The child was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Baby released from hospital
The baby has since been released from hospital and is in the care of a relative, RCMP said.
The 26-year-old, who is from Thompson, was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
She was released from custody with a promise to appear in court in Thompson on Jan. 28.
