An Alberta man was taken into custody after Manitoba RCMP say they found 61 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside the back of the SUV he was driving.

Mounties stopped the SUV while it was heading west along the Trans-Canada Highway in the rural municipality of Reynolds on March 29, a Wednesday news release from the RCMP says.

Officers had reason to believe the driver, 29, was in possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, according to the release.

They took him into custody and seized the drugs, but have not laid any charges.

Mounties continue to investigate.
