Trio sought after dozens of iPhones worth $70K stolen from Portage la Prairie business: RCMP

Three people wanted after about 60 iPhones were stolen from a business in a south-central Manitoba city last month are believed to be connected to a string of similar thefts across the Prairies, RCMP say.

On March 10, RCMP received a report of a theft that took place the night before at around 9:30 p.m. at a Sissons Drive business, a Tuesday news release says.

A woman reportedly distracted an employee in the electronics department of the business while two men she was with broke into a locked cabinet, stealing the iPhones within minutes, police say.

The theft, which totals more than $70,000, was not discovered until the next morning, according to police.

The incident is believed to be connected with three similar thefts over the last month in Swift Current, Sask., as well as Brooks and Medicine Hat in Alberta, police say.

The three people suspected in the theft are described as a man in his 30s wearing a white jacket and a blue baseball cap and seen in an RCMP-provided photo, as well as another man in his 30s wearing a black-and-white baseball cap and a woman in her 30s wearing a long, white jacket.

Anyone with information on the theft or who recognizes the man in the image is asked to call Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or to submit a secure tip online.
