The City of Winnipeg has some hardware to hand out and wants to know who should get it.
As part of Winnipeg’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Mayor Scott Gillingham on Tuesday launched a nomination process to honour 150 residents “who’ve done outstanding things.”
“As we commemorate this significant anniversary, we thought it was the perfect time to recognize individuals who have made great contributions to our city,” he said at the launch event at city hall.
Winnipeg 150 medals will be presented by the mayor and council during the year.
“We’re asking you to please nominate your friends, your neighbours, and your colleagues who exemplify the spirit of our vibrant and diverse city,” Gillingham said.
Recipients will receive a specially designed Winnipeg 150 medal, a certificate signed by the mayor and a tree planted in their name in a city park.
“This symbolizes the lasting impact they have made and will continue to make on our community,” Gillingham said.
Nominations can be submitted online on or before July 15.
Current employees of the City of Winnipeg are ineligible, as is anyone who has previously received awards for community service or volunteerism from the City.
There are a number of Winnipeg 150 community events and celebrations planned for the year.
