A murder charge has been laid after a man was shot in Winnipeg’s North End on Thursday morning and later died, police say.

Police were called just after 3 a.m. on Thursday to a corner of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street, where they found the man outside. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he died from his injuries, police previously said.

The victim was identified as Eric Yuefi Fong, 31, and his family has been notified, police said in a Friday news release.

Shayden Duck McFayden, 21, was arrested Thursday and has been charged with second-degree murder and several gun-related offences, police say.

Fong and another man were walking near Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street, when the man believed to be McFayden confronted them, shot Fong and chased the other man as he fled on foot, police say.

The other man has not been identified and police are not sure if he was injured.

Police are asking for help to identify the man and ensure his well-being.
