Winnipeg man charged with murder in April homicide

A Winnipeg man has been charged with second-degree murder in a fatal shooting at the end of April.

Acting on a warrant, Winnipeg police arrested Adam Joseph Morrissette, 50, in connection with the death of Bill Brian Duck, 28, police said in a news release Wednesday.

They say officers were patrolling near McGregor Street and Magnus Avenue on Monday shortly before midnight when a pickup truck made an evasive turn in front of them. The officers followed the truck to Burrows Avenue and Parr Street, where a man got out of the vehicle and starting running away, police say.

Officers caught up with him, and he was identified as a suspect in Duck’s death.

They also found out the truck he was driving was stolen, and he was carrying a small amount of drugs.

Duck was found shot at a home near Flora Avenue, between McGregor and Parr streets, shortly before 9 p.m. on April 26, police said in an earlier news release.

Police gave him emergency medical care before he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.

Police say Duck and Morrissette didn’t know each other.

Duck was a member of God’s Lake Narrows First Nation but recently moved to Winnipeg, police say.
