A 61-year-old man from Winnipeg drowned in Whiteshell Provincial Park on Sunday after his canoe capsized, RCMP say.

A passerby found an injured 58-year-old woman at 7:55 p.m. on the shore at Meditation Lake, which is located in southeast Manitoba approximately 120 kilometres east of Winnipeg, according to a Monday news release from Whitemouth RCMP.

The woman was canoeing with her husband and told the passerby he was missing, the release said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the deceased man in the water. An autopsy will be conducted, Whitemouth RCMP said. The woman is in hospital.

The RCMP said it was windy with cooler temperatures on the lake when the canoe tipped and that both individuals were wearing life jackets.
