Woman dead after crash between Sea-Doo and boat on Whitemud River

A boat and Sea-Doo collided on a winding river in southern Manitoba on Saturday, leaving one person dead and another injured, RCMP say.

Police were called just before 4:30 p.m. to a bend on the Whitemud River in the rural municipality of Westlake-Gladstone.

A boat with five people aboard was heading north on the river when it collided with a southbound Sea-Doo with two people aboard, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.

The man and woman on the Sea-Doo were taken aboard the boat and transported to a nearby campground where they were met by emergency crews.

A 39-year-old woman, who was the passenger on the Sea-Doo, was pronounced dead on scene. The 31-year-old man who was driving the Sea-Doo was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both are from Portage la Prairie, police said.

No one on the boat was physically injured.
