Assault Peace Officer – Public Assistance: C24-165704

On July 18, 2024, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers of the Winnipeg Police Service were engaged with members of the public while parked in their marked police vehicle in a surface parking lot in the 300 block of Sherbrook Street.

During the unrelated public engagement, an adult male suspect approached the vehicle  and threw a large metal object through the open passenger window, striking both officers in the upper body. Both officers sustained minor injuries for which they received medical attention after attending hospital.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as 44-year-old Waylon Joseph PAUL of Winnipeg. A Warrant has been issued for PAUL for Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2 and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2, and investigators request public assistance locating PAUL.

PAUL is a HIGH-RISK OFFENDER, considered dangerous, and should not be approached if encountered.
