Carjacking – Arrests: C24-157913

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., North District General Patrol officers of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Cathedral Avenue for the report of an assault and attempted carjacking with a firearm.

Attending officers spoke with a 52-year-old female victim who had been relayed she was assaulted by one of three suspects during an attempted theft of her vehicle. Officers learned the victim advised she observed the suspects, one brandishing a firearm, in the process of stealing her parked vehicle. After demanding the keys to the vehicle, one of the suspects assaulted the victim in the upper body with the firearm while threatening to kill her, resulting in minor injuries. The suspects were unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle and fled before police arrived.

Officers arrested two youths and one adult in the vicinity without incident. Various controlled substances and a small quantity of funds were seized from one of the suspects. The firearm, believed to be a replica firearm (BB rifle), was discarded as the suspects fled.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned that shortly before this incident, the three suspects damaged a 2016 Kia Forte in the 200 block of Machray Avenue and a 2020 Kia Soul near Church Avenue and Powers Street. Damages to the vehicles are estimated at approximately $1000.

An 18-year-old male faces the charges of Armed Robbery, two counts of Mischief Under $5,000, three counts of Possession of Scheduled Substances (Cocaine, Fentanyl, Ecstacy), and Possession of more than 30 grams of Marijuana in a public place.

A 16-year-old male faces the charges of Armed Robbery, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, and two counts of Mischief Under $5,000.

A 17-year-old female faces the charge of Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm.

All three were released with Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
