Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched more features to the Permits Online web-based portal to help make the permit process more convenient for applicants.
Permits Online is a one-stop shop to manage the permit process. Once registered for an account, users can apply for various development, building and trade permits, view the status of active permits and applications, submit documents, and make payments online.
In this third phase of enhancements to Permits Online, commercial building and trade permits, as well as permits for signs, can be applied for online.
“Permits Online is a key part of our efforts to improve customer service, modernize our processes and ensure we are meeting the needs of our growing city,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “By expanding the range of permits available through this online platform, we’re making it faster and more convenient for residents, businesses, and developers to get projects underway.”
Previous enhancements to Permits Online included the ability to apply for:
- Residential building permits
- Residential plumbing and electrical permits
Users can also save and return to partially completed permit applications within a 30-day period.
“We are delivering on our commitment to improve the permit process. I am pleased we are offering options for everyone who wants to apply for a permit using our online system,” said Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development.
“Expanding Permits Online supports building and development in Winnipeg,” said Hazel Borys, Director of the Planning, Property & Development Department. “And more improvements are in the works. We plan to launch an accessible and more user-friendly version of Permits Online in 2025.”
Enhancing Permits Online is part of a larger, ongoing process to expand our digital services – including online applications and self-service options – all of which are aimed at speeding up the rate of development in Winnipeg.
