Update:

As the result of an ongoing investigation by the Traffic Division, a second individual has been arrested in relation to a fatal collision with a cyclist on June 6, 2024, at Wellington/Cockburn. An 18-year-old male is facing the charge of:
 

  • Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Knowing that or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident Causing Death

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

As previously released:

On June 6, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Emergency Services responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist eastbound Wellington Crescent near Cockburn Street N (both were travelling in this direction).

The 61-year-old victim was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he subsequently passed away, and family notifications have been made. 

The investigation determined the fatal collision was a hit-and-run, and a suspect vehicle has been recovered.

Members of the Traffic Division continued the investigation. It has been determined that a white BMW was being operated at a high rate of speed when it struck the cyclist, causing fatal injuries.

Beckham Keneth SEVERIGHT, 19 years old, has been arrested and charged with the following:

– Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death

– Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Knowing that or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident Causing Death
