On September 8, 2024, at approximately 1:42 a.m., patrolling North District General Patrol officers observed an adult male operating a bicycle in an unsafe manner at Alexander Avenue and Arlington Street. A traffic stop was initiated after the male nearly collided with the officers’ police cruiser.
Upon speaking with the male regarding the Highway Traffic Act infraction, he identified himself as a male for which an active warrant was in effect. Officers arrested the male without incident, and a subsequent search produced a loaded improvised firearm (Zip gun) with a .22 calibre round of ammunition concealed on his person.
The male eventually provided his proper name, and further investigation revealed an outstanding Brandon Police Service warrant for his arrest.
A 23-year-old male from Winnipeg faces the following charges:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
- Warrant (Fail to Attend Court)
- Provincial Offence Act Notice (HTA 75)
He was detained in custody.
