Residents asked to help steer future of Omand’s Creek Pedestrian Bridge

Winnipeg, MB – The Omand’s Creek Pedestrian Bridge needs replacing – and we want to know how Winnipeggers think that should look.

We’re inviting residents to participate in a unique “pre-design” public engagement program that will help us start the design-build process on the right foot and with community wants and needs top-of-mind right from the get-go.

This project will be a fresh start to a conversation we started with the community in 2010. At that time, work on a new bridge stalled due to community concerns with the proposed designs.

This time around, we’re asking questions about:

  • Improving pathways around the bridge
  • Whether what we heard in 2010 is still relevant and whether we correctly interpreted the feedback
  • Key areas of park use
  • What the community values about the park
  • What criteria the community would want to see us use to evaluate potential designs

The Omand’s Creek Pedestrian Bridge and surrounding pathways are an important east-west active transportation connection between Omand Park and Wolseley.

The bridge will require replacement within five years. It also has some critical issues we must fix, including not meeting accessibility standards and ongoing flood concerns.

Winnipeggers can share their thoughts on the bridge via an online survey and online mapping tool open until June 10 or at the park itself from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 30.
