Transportation plan released for Winnipeggers’ review

Winnipeg, MB – Buckle up – we’re ready for you to review the road map we hope will move Winnipeg’s transportation network into the future.

TRANSPORTATION 2050: Reimagining Mobility – the much-anticipated final draft of our transportation master plan update – is now public.

The comprehensive strategic plan asks Winnipeggers to rethink what mobility means to them and embrace a shift towards sustainability, economic growth, and safe, accessible travel for all.

“Winnipeg is changing and we need transportation to change with it,” said Councillor Janice Lukes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works. “This plan lays the groundwork for our transportation system to support economic growth, the environment, and Winnipeggers’ ability to move around the city safely and efficiently using whatever mode they choose.”

The draft plan sets targets for achieving reimagined mobility, recommends policies that would support success, and sets out a proposed action plan to, among other things, reach 50 percent mode shift by 2050.

“Undertaking master plans like this require us to balance the needs of many different stakeholders and types of road users,” said Lukes. “This plan won’t completely satisfy anyone, but absolutely has something for everyone.”

The next step for the plan is for us to help Winnipeggers understand what the plan could mean for them.
