Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Main Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:38 a.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a hotel in the 600 block of Main Street.

At the scene, crews attacked the fire from inside the building, declaring the fire under control about half an hour later.

Firefighters searched the building to ensure all residents were safely evacuated. A Winnipeg Transit bus responded to the scene to provide temporary shelter for evacuated residents. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support to evacuated residents. No injuries were reported.

The building sustained water, smoke, and fire damage. The fire is under investigation.

Residents should use caution in the area, as water used to fight the fire has frozen and created slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required to improve traction.
