Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alfred Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:56 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a one-and-a-half-storey duplex in the 600 block of Alfred Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack, using hose lines to apply water to the fire. It was declared under control at 5:02 a.m.

Residents self-evacuated before crews arrived. Multiple people were assessed by paramedics on scene. One person was transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Firefighters completed a search of the building and located two cats, one of which was deceased.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team was called to help find temporary accommodations for displaced residents.

Damage estimates are not available at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
