Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Camiel Sys Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:04 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a commercial structure in the 700 block of Camiel Sys Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. They entered and launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:13 a.m.

All occupants of the building self-evacuated prior to arrival of WFPS crews. One firefighter suffered a minor injury at the scene. They were assessed by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
