Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Langside Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:08 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a vacant two-and-a-half-storey house in the 500 block of Langside Street.

Crews arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. They initially launched an offensive fire attack, and searched the structure for occupants. There were no occupants found inside.

Conditions inside the structure became unsafe, so crews moved outside and switched to a defensive strategy. Hose lines and an aerial ladder truck were used to apply water to the fire. It was declared under control at 2:22 p.m.

Firefighters also completed a search of two neighbouring homes as a precaution, and there were no occupants found. No injuries were reported.

The structure suffered significant water, smoke and fire damage and emergency demolition was ordered. The house also suffered significant damage from previous fires in November 2023 and December 2023.

Langside Street will be closed between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Street until the demolition is complete. Pedestrians and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
