Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on St. Johns Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:12 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 300 block of St. Johns Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house and extending to the two neighbouring houses. Crews launched an offensive fire attack, while working to stop further fire spread. The fire was declared under control at 4:55 p.m.

Extreme temperatures created challenging conditions for firefighters. Crews were rotated in and out of operations as required to provide them with breaks from the heat.

Occupants from the three houses safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team was deployed to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
