Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to four overnight structure fires last night.
Evanson Avenue fire
At 4:48 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey, multi-family residence in the 200 block of Evanson Street.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. They launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:28 a.m.
Firefighters completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
If residents see someone actively entering a vacant structure, or removing boards from windows or doors, they should report the incident immediately by calling the Winnipeg Police Service at 911.
Anyone who sees that boarded windows or doors have been breached, but did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter a structure should report the incident to 311.
Alexander Avenue fire
At 3:07 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 700 block of Alexander Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found a well-involved fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Due to the heavy fire conditions, it was not safe for firefighters to enter the structure. They launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior, using hand lines to apply water to the fire. The fire was declared under control at 6:35 a.m.
Crews remain on scene at this time putting out hotspots and ensuring the fire is fully extinguished.
No injuries have been reported. A neighbouring house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was activated to assist displaced residents.
The fire is under investigation. The house has sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage and is believed to be a complete loss.
St. Anne’s Road fire
At 2:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey, multi-tenant commercial structure in the 100 block of St. Anne’s Road.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from one of the units. Firefighters entered and fought the fire from the interior, declaring the fire under control at 2:32 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
McPhillips Street fire
At 11:07 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a large commercial structure in the 2100 block of McPhillips Street.
Upon arrival at the location, crews found that an outdoor fire had extended to the exterior of building. They launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:28 a.m.
The business was closed to the public at the time of the fire. Staff working inside safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation.
