Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Home Street and Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews recently responded to fires on Home Street and Stella Avenue.

Home Street fire

At 5:46 p.m. on Friday, June 21, WFPS responded to reports of fire at a two-and-a-half-storey house in the 600 block of Home Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they saw smoke coming from the structure. They entered the house and launched an attack using hose lines to put the fire out. It was declared under control at 6:08 p.m.

Residents self-evacuated before crews arrived on scene. On person was assessed by paramedics on scene, but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to assist the displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Stella Avenue fire

At 3:57 a.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at a vacant one-storey house in the 300 block of Stella Avenue.

Smoke was coming from the structure when crews arrived on scene. They launched an offensive fire attack, fighting the fire from inside the house. They brought the fire under control at 4:24 a.m.

Firefighters completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
